The Madrid Audiovisual Cluster, the association of film, television and content companies based in the Madrid region, used the sixth edition of Iberseries & Platino Industria to put its members' work with artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies in front of the international content industry, according to the trade outlet Panorama Audiovisual. The event was held from 30 September to 2 October at Matadero Madrid. It is driven by EGEDA and Fundación Secuoya, in collaboration with FIPCA, and sponsored by Madrid Film Office and Film Madrid Region.
A container in Plaza Matadero
The cluster ran its own pavilion, a container in Plaza Matadero that served as a meeting and networking point during the event. Visitors from the European and Latin American industry included Iris Bucher of Quad Drama (France), Joao Maia of SPI (Portugal), Marcela Kartaszewicz of DramaBox, David Urgell of BBC Studios and Alexander Marín of RNC Televisión (Colombia).
AI in practice
Its main session was a workshop titled "Innovation cases in audiovisual: new businesses, use of AI and other emerging technologies" (translated), built around practical cases of how technology is creating new business models and solutions for the industry. It was presented by Raúl Izquierdo, a board member of the cluster and general director of Tech Brand Stories (TBS), Telefónica Broadcast Services, and moderated by Henar León, a cultural manager specialised in digital transformation in the creative industries.
The cases came from companies across the value chain: Telefónica Broadcast Services, Paramotion Films, Xpost of Secuoya Content Group, Hark Media, Story Pitcher, Scout&Film, MORE and the strategy consultant Mercedes Santalla.
A line to Berlin
The programme also included a conversation with Tanja Meissner, director of Berlinale Pro, the industry platform of the Berlin International Film Festival that brings together the European Film Market, the Berlinale Co-Production Market, Berlinale Talents and the World Cinema Fund. Interviewed by the consultant Rosa Bosch, she spoke about markets and festivals as places to develop projects, find financing and set up co-productions.
